Not only are they great gifts, but there is a big market for personalized baby blankets.  It used to be there were two things we could be sure of, dying and paying our taxes.  Everything else was open to discussion.  I have figured out there is a third thing to add to the list, babies.  Figure it out, it isn’t rocket science.

If there are no babies being born then there is no one to die and no one to pay taxes.  So, since there will always be babies and babies need to stay warm, there will always be a demand for baby blankets!

Seriously, there is always a demand for blankets that can be customized because every baby is special.  Parents love to get personalized gifts for their newborn babies, especially if it’s their first child.  You can start a business with a minimal amount of money and within a short period of time your business can become quite lucrative.

This is especially true if you are able to do several different crafts.  You can sell knitted baby blankets, crochet baby blankets, in fact handmade baby blankets of any kind.

Buy Your Own Embroidery Machine

There are inexpensive home embroidery machines on the market for as low as around $500.  The embroidery field is usually only a four inch square, but with a little patience you can learn how to combine designs so that they form a larger pattern.

With an embroidery machine you can do custom blanket with the child’s name and his/her date of birth.  If you intend to do any kind of mass production then you can even find pre-made wholesale baby blankets online that are ready to be personalized.  Fleece baby blankets are not very expensive and can easily be embroidered.

If you have a consignment shop in your area you could place a sample there on display and take special orders.  Some people set up at flea markets and craft shows to sell personalized baby blankets, handmade baby blankets and a whole array of other personalized baby gifts.

Especially during fall and winter months, baby blankets are big sellers.  Whenever the weather changes parents start looking for unique blankets to keep their children warm.  All babies have blankets, but not all babies have custom blankets for babies, so they can be a big seller.  It’s not expensive to get started and you know there will always be a demand.

All in all, I would say that investing in a personalized baby blanket will pay off in the long run, and in the short run to be quite honest. I remember how excited my baby boy was when I gave him his and that excitement is worth so much to any parent!

It’s kind of funny but whenever you go shopping for baby blankets for a friend or family member’s baby you really aren’t thinking of the baby at all!  Just think back to the last time you went shopping for a blanket for a baby shower or a gift for a newborn.

You probably thought to yourself how much mommy would love that blanket made from crochet you just spotted at the Pottery Barn™ Kids display.  In fact, you probably never realized it but now that I’m telling you, you KNOW it’s the truth.

So now that we know WHO we’re shopping for, let’s figure out what kind of baby blankets we need to look at.

Planning Ahead

If your friend is already setting up a memory book for the baby then probably something with a personal touch would be great.  Do you know how to do any crafts?  Perhaps you could find patterns for knitted baby blankets or crochet baby blankets.

If you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on a pattern book there are online sites that have free patterns for either a knitted or crochet baby blanket.  There are also sewing patterns if you are really into it and want to make a custom blanket for a baby from start to finish.

Embroidering Yourself

I, personally, like to take out the embroidery machine and play with it.  I buy a few fleece baby blankets and “personalize” them.  Sometimes I monogram them and sometimes I embroider the baby’s name and date of birth on a blanket made from crochet, if the baby is already born that is.  I have most of the Disney line of embroidery designs for my brother.

Some of the designs came built in so I don’t even need the card reader and memory card in order to make Disney embroidered baby blankets.  Actually, I have had a bunch of people call me to see if I would make personalized baby blankets for them.  I’ve been working on Christmas throws at the moment and that’s OK.

Learn Where To Buy

I’m picking up extra money for the holidays.  If you really get into it you can buy wholesale baby blankets and make some major money selling them.  Like I said, around the holidays people actually come to you, it’s not like you have to go scouting them out, but you can if you want.

Once you realize what the baby’s mom is into you have a place to start.  Baby blankets are meant to keep the baby warm and comfy for sure, but the gift is really for the mom.  That baby isn’t going to know if it’s green or orange or purple or polka dot or whatever.

The baby is not going to remember whether he/she was in a blanket made out of certain material or a fleece one! At least not until that baby is all grown and ready to have a baby of its own.  Then the memory box will come out and the process will start all over again.  By then baby blankets might not even be necessary!

Maybe scientists will figure out a way to keep body temperature at 98.6 all the time no matter what the room or atmospheric temperature is.  But that’s something for late night scientific fiction reading.  For now, I guess you’ll just have to figure out which baby blankets mommy will like.

If you are in the market for gifts for your baby you may be shopping for a while.  There are so many to choose from, it’s downright overwhelming.  But that’s ok because nothing is more fun than shopping for a baby blanket.   If you are looking for a special present to give at a baby shower or for the birth of a child,they make the perfect gifts.

Probably the most common is fleece baby blankets.  They are relatively inexpensive and quite warm, soft and snuggly.  You can find them crafted from fleece fabric printed in a variety of themes.

If you have a theme to your nursery you can usually find curtains and bedding to match.  Merchants like Pottery Barn Kids collections also carry furniture, quilts, crib bumpers, lamps and other matching accessories.

You Have Options

Handmade quilts for babies are also fun to look for.  If you don’t have any particular talent or craft that you are adept in you can find the following choices for sale around the net:

It is always a good idea to have several blankets around anyways.  For colder winter months baby will need a nice thick quilt for warmth while in the summer you may only need a thin covering to give baby a sense of security at bedtime.  Baby security blankets are more important than you think.

There is a whole big world out there and sometimes baby just needs the safety of being wrapped in its own little cocoon.  Of course you can always stay up all night rocking him but that might not go over so well with daddy.

Their Comfort Is All That Matters

So yes, baby blankets are useful.  They keep babies warm and secure.  But they are also fashionable and trendy.  Like I said earlier, with so many to choose from you may be shopping for a while.  Just make sure the child isn’t in high school before you decide on its baby blanket cause by then chances are that it will be a little bit too small for him or her!
